Omar García Obregón: “Childhood”

Translated and read by Parvati Nair (Queen Mary University of London)

CHILDHOOD embraced the hope

Of resisting and raising the sail

That would deafen reality,

Immediacy filled with soot

Where stars did not twinkle.

LA NIÑEZ abrazaba la esperanza

de resistir y levantar el vuelo

que ensordeciera la realidad,

la inmediatez rellena de carbón

donde no titilaban las estrellas.
